Small Beads for Kippot, Tallit Clips and Jewelry There are some beautiful choices for the small beads needed for a kippah, tallit clips and jewelry. Swarovski makes beautiful crystal beads that have that extra sparkle to them because of their many facets. I use bicone-shaped Swarovski beads, as well as their small round ones. There are many, many colors to choose from. It is best to use the colors that are a little more on the lighter side if you have dark hair. If you have light-colored hair, then the deeper shades can work beautifully. Swarovski glass pearls are another option. They come in different colors, as well as the traditional white and cream shades. They are perfect and look like genuine pearls. These can be used in combination with the crystals. Czech fire-polished glass beads are also very beautiful. These are available in many different colors, and also with many different color combinations; some have two or three different colors in one bead. Semi-precious gemstone beads are yet another option. I use the small round beads for the kippot. Sometimes I am able to find gorgeous square, oval, flat rounds or rectangular-shaped semi-precious gemstones for the focal bead and they make incredible kippot and matching tallit clips, in conjunction with the small round semi-precious gemstone beads. One thinks of gemstone beads as being a more elegant presentation, but they can also be a more earthy presentation, depending on the finish of the beads. There are many beautiful color combinations; different colors in a single bead. These will be featured soon on the website. I also use glass chip beads, such as millifiore glass chips, and semi-precious gemstone chips. These give a very different effect than the round or bicone shapes of the glass beads. Depending on the type chosen, they can give the kippah either a more unconventional, or more earthy look. I have used amethyst chips, clear quartz chips, and even coral chips. Tikkun Olam - Repair of the World I have been fortunate, indeed, to find some bead companies that believe in this phrase, on a couple of different levels. One company purchases beads from Ghana, Indonesia and Africa. The people in their villages make beads from recycled glass, which helps the environment, as well as providing much needed income for their families. Each of us can contribute to Tikkun Olam by continuing to purchase recycled glass beads, as well as other beads made by these communities. There is no end to the creativity that can be achieved with all the different combinations. Please see the color charts below for a representation of what is available for Swarovski Crystal, and the Czech Fire-Polished glass beads.. This is only a small number of the colors available. If I do not have what you are looking for in stock, I can order what is needed. This is also true for the recycled handmade small glass beads, and the semi-precious beads or chips. |
